Terranova launches new security awareness courses
Montréal, Quebec – May 13, 2009 -- Terranova Security Awareness, a provider of comprehensive security training and communication solutions is offering three new courses that augment Terranova’s current security awareness course materials. Each course is targeted specifically to particular audiences: one new course for corporate managers and two new courses for information technology professionals.
According to Ponemon Institute, a data protection research organization, about 88 percent of all data breaches in 2008 were attributed to “insider” negligence. And with businesses already in crisis mode due to current economic conditions, they really can’t afford to part with the estimated $6.6 million lost in a typical breach.
“It’s extremely important that organizations target specific user groups within their organization with security information and training relevant to their functions and responsibilities,” said Lise Lapointe, president of Terranova Security Awareness. “Managers must support a security awareness program as they become the critical delivery channel. If managers don’t see the importance of information security, it is evident that their employees won’t either.”
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) – Technology Administration US Department of Commerce Special Publication 800-5 – Building an Information Technology Security Awareness and Training Program states that special training materials are required for management as well as system administrators and IT support personnel.
